Four Named MIAA Athletes of the Week

Four Hope College student-athletes have been chosen as MIAA Athletes of the Week in their respective sports: swimmers Dallas Fisher and Sara Kraus, diver Abby Koops, and men's basketball forward Evan Thomas.

Fisher is receiving the MIAA Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week honor for the first time.

The sophomore electrical engineering major from Highland, Michigan (Detroit Catholic Central HS) won three events over two meets for the 17th-ranked Flying Dutchmen last weekend. 

During a tri-meet against Kalamazoo College and Olivet College on Friday, Fisher clocked first-place swims at Holland Aquatic Center in the 400-yard individual medley of 4 minutes, 15.78 seconds and in the 500 freestyle of 4:52.63. The Flying Dutchmen defeated Kalamazoo, 155-87, and Olivet College, 191-32.

At third-ranked University of Chicago on Saturday, Fisher recorded a winning time in the 200 backstroke of 56.23 seconds during a 222-69 loss.

Kraus is the MIAA Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and the sixth time in her career.

The sophomore exercise science major from Rockford, Michigan (Rockford) finished first in both backstroke events for the 12th-ranked Flying Dutch during a 175-119 loss at No. 4-ranked University of Chicago on Saturday.

Kraus posted times of 57.45 seconds in the 100 and 2:04.13 in the 200.

On Friday, Kraus placed runner-up in the 100 freestyle during a tri-meet sweep of Kalamazoo and Olivet with a time of 55.50 seconds. Hope topped Kalamazoo, 162-75, and Olivet, 176-35.

Koops is the MIAA Women's Diving Athlete of the Week for the third time this season and the eighth time in her career.

The sophomore nursing major from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Northern) swept both boards during the MIAA tri-meet against Kalamazoo and Olivet on Friday at Holland Aquatic Center.

Koops posted six-dive scores of 249.40 points on 3-meter and 222.80 points on 1-meter.

Thomas is the MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the sixth time in his career.

The senior biology major from Okemos, Michigan (Okemos) averaged 19.5 points and 11.5 rebounds during home victories last week against Adrian College and Alma College.

On Saturday, Thomas tied for team-high scoring honors with 20 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds during a come-from-behind, 83-76 win against Alma College at DeVos Fieldhouse. The biology major scored all of his points during the second half.

On Wednesday, Thomas tallied 19 points and nine rebounds during a 74-60 win against Adrian College at DeVos Fieldhouse.
