Women's Cross Country Shines at Pre-National Meet in Pennsylvania

The nationally-ranked Hope College women's cross country team soared to a sixth-place finish at the Pre-National Meet on Saturday.

After earning 204 points, the No. 29-ranked Flying Dutch placed ahead of four teams ranked higher in this week's USTFCCCA NCAA Division III rankings. The event was held at Big Spring High School, the site of next month's NCAA Division III Championships.

No. 19 Vassar took eighth with 252 points. No. 26 John Carroll finished 10th with 308 points. No. 22 Washington and Lee placed 11th with 312. No. 17 Pomona-Pitzer was in 12th place with 339.

No. 8 Claremont-Mudd Scripps won the 39-team meet with 51 points. Williams senior Genna Girard raced to a winning time of 21:29.4.

Three Hope runners finished in the Top 30 of a field of 359 runners.

Senior Rebecca Markham (Hoffman Estates, Illinois / William Fremd HS) clocked a 12th-place, 6K run of 22:19.9.

Junior Maddy Struck (Hainesville, Illinois / Hainesville Central) posted a 15th-place effort of 22:26.2.

Senior Olivia Quillan (Grandville, Michigan / Calvin Christian) recorded a 27th-place time of 22:38.1.

Hope's next meets will be on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 11:45 a.m. CDT at the Augustana College (Illinois) Interregional Invite and at 1:30 p.m. at the Muskegon Community College Invite.
