Football Foursome Garners All-MIAA Honors on Defense

Four from the Hope College football team have claimed All-MIAA recognition on defense.

Two are first-team honorees: Nick Flegler at safety and Cole Luhmann at linebacker.

Two made the second team: Oatis Ackermann at defensive line and Darion Nundley at defensive back.

This is the first All-MIAA recognition for all four honorees.

Flegler (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt HS) tied for the MIAA lead with three interceptions during league play. The sophomore averagied 4 1/2 tackles from the safety position.

Luhmann (Rochester, Michigan / Stoney Creek) ranked 11th in the MIAA with 40 tackles against league opponents. The junior mathematics major also registered two sacks and 4 ½ tackles for loss.

Ackermann (East Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) collected 26 tackles and 3 ½ sacks during MIAA play. The junior business major also recorded five tackles for loss.

Nundley (Detroit, Michigan / Woodhaven) recovered from an injury that sidelined him the first two games of the season to excel in the secondary. The sophomore finished with 19 tackles and two pass breakups against MIAA opponents.

On offense, the Flying Dutchmen had five All-MIAA honorees, including first-teamers Dylan Clem at guard, Grant Holtzer at wide receiver and Chance Strickland at running back, and second-teamers Cole Harger at offensive line and Luke Marsh at offensive line.
