Four Hope College student-athletes have been MIAA Athletes of the Week: Greta Gidley in women's swimming, Colin Kalkman in men's swimming, Abby Koops in women's diving and Ewan Tiongson in men's diving.
Gildey (Farmington, Michigan / Mercy HS) is the MIAA Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the second time in her career.
The junior set a meet record in the 200-yard individual medley at the Total Performance Invitational hosted by Kenyon College (Ohio) last week by clocking a time of 2 minutes, 1.90 seconds that's the fastest swim in Division III this season.
An elementary education major, Gidley also clocked the third-fastest, 100-yard butterfly in Division III this season with a school-record and MIAA-record swim of 54.87 seconds.Â
Gidley finished 10th in the 200-yard butterfly A-final with a time of 2:08.78 and was a part of the third-place 200-yard medley relay and fourth-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-medley relay.
Kalkman (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian) was an 'A' finalist in all four of his individual events and was a member of Hope's A relays. In the 200 backstroke, Kalkman finished seventh with a swim of 1:52.23. In the 200 individual medley, Kalkman placed 10th with a time of 1:54.27 and finished seventh in the 100 backstroke with an MIAA top time this season of 49.57.Â
The junior biology major led off the fourth-place 400-yard freestyle relay in 45.60, marking an MIAA top time this season, on top of finishing sixth in the 200-medley relay and placing eighth in the 400-medley relay.Â
Koops (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) is the MIAA Women's Diver of the Week for the third time this season and the 11th time in his career.
At the Total Performance Invitational, Koops won both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards and cleared the NCAA Diving Regional score on both boards. On Friday, Koops broke the meet record with a score of 487.05 on the 1-meter board and posted a score of 426.75 on the 3-meter board.
Tiongson (Portage, Michigan / Portage Northern) is the MIAA Men's Diver of the Week for the second time this season and the third time in his career.
The junior finished runner-up on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards at the Total Performance Invitational and was just behind the defending national champion in both events. TheÂ
On Friday, Tiongson posted a 530.35 on the 3-meter board, an NCAA regional qualifying score, and on Saturday posted a 411.15 on the 1-meter board.
