Sophomore Sara Schermerhorn Breaks Own School Record in the Indoor 200 Meters

Sprinter Sara Schermerhorn is picking up right where she left off on the track.

The sophomore from Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City West HS) broke her own school record in the indoor 200 meters at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open on Friday in Allendale.

Schermerhorn clocked a sixth-place time of 25.26 seconds that surpassed her best time as a freshman: 25.34.

Last season, Schermerhorn eclipsed the school record five times in the 200 meters.

There were 69 runners in the 200-meter field, including entrants from NCAA Division I, II and II schools, and NAIA.

Hope recorded Top 10 results in five more events at the non-scoring meet.

In the 3,000 meters, freshman Shelby Bosler clocked a seventh-place run of 11:09.91.

In the 4x400 relay, sophomore Catherine Leahy (Elk Rapids, Michigan / Elk Rapids), Schermerhorn, Erin Moran (Arlington Heights, Illinois / John Hersey) and sophomore Frances Cozzens (Lyman, New Hampshire / Saint Johnsbury) recorded a 13th-place time of 4:05.94.

In the 800 meters, freshman Stella Farmer posted a 17th-place effort of 2:24.28.

In the 5,000 meters, sophomore Ellie Coderre (Lisle, Illinois / Naperville North) took 24th with a time of 19:56.72.

In the 400 meters, Leahy placed 28th at 1:02.46.

Hope is next scheduled to compete on Saturday, Jan. 20, at the GVSU Mike Lints Alumni Meet.
