ACHA Hockey Sweeps Western Michigan in Regular-Season Finale

The top-ranked Hope College ice hockey team wrapped up the regular season with an 11-3 and 9-1 sweep of Western Michigan University's American Collegiate Hockey Association team over the weekend.

Winners of 21 games in a row, the Flying Dutchmen improved to 26-1 overall and finished Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference West Division play with a 12-0 record.

Hope's next game is the MCHC Vezina Cup playoffs on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 8:15 p.m. at Griff's IceHouse West. The Flying Dutchmen will host the lower seed remaining among these four teams: Davenport University, Ferris State University, Western Michigan or Michigan State University.

On Saturday, senior left wing Lucas Barber (Lake Orion, Michigan / Lake Orion HS) and freshman left wing Luke Cramer (Fenton, Michigan / Flint Powers Catholic) both scored twice to lead a group of seven different goal scorers.

Each also chipped in an assist.

Freshman goalie Ander Ciesielski (Kalamazoo, Michjigan / Mattawan) made 17 saves.

On Friday, freshman forward Brenden Tarpening (Fenton, Michigan / Flint Powers) recorded a hat trick as seven different Flying Dutchmen scored.

Barber and senior center Gabe Gunneson (Rockford, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) each collected two goals.

Senior defensman Niko Stamas (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Mattawan) registered three assists.
