Seven Athletes Honored by the MIAA

Seven Hope College student-athletes have been named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Athletes of the Week: including six in indoor track and field and one in women's tennis.

Seniors Grace Behrens, Ellie Jankowski, Eli Meder, Ana Tucker, and Samantha Schermerhorn and sophomores Sullivan Moran and Greta Robrahn all were honored.

The MIAA Women's Track Athlete(s) of the Week award goes to the distance medley relay of Jankowski (Granger, Indiana / Penn), Behrens (Mishawaka, Indiana / Trinity School at Greenlawn), Schermerhorn (Traverse City, T.C. West), and Tucker (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow).

The relay recorded a time of 11 minutes, 55.73 seconds at the University of Chicago's Windy City Rumble that ranks fourth-fastest in NCAA Division III.

This is the third MIAA indoor track honor of the season for Tucker, a kinesiology major, and the sixth of her career. 

This is the first award this season for Behrens, an environmental science major, and the second time in her career. 

This is the first honor for Jankowski, a business and communication major, and Schermerhorn, a public accounting and business major.

Robrahn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland Eastt) is the MIAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the third time in her career.

The physical and health education major recorded the MIAA's top indoor shot put this season at 12.81 meters (42 feet, ½ inch) on Saturday in Chicago.

Meder (Williamston, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) is the MIAA Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the second time.

The business and economics major clocked the MIAA's fastest 800-meter run while winning at Chicago on Saturday with a time of 1:54.98. Meder ranks 25th in NCAA Division III.

Meder also ran a leg of the Flying Dutchmen's first place and MIAA-leading 4x400 relay that posted a run of 3:28.56.

Moran (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves) is the MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and the third time in her career.

The political science major won her matches at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles against Cornerstone University during the spring opener at DeWitt Tennis Center on Friday.
