Sophomore Nick McCreery (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford HS) collected two goals to lead the Hope College men's lacrosse team during a 12-8 loss to Rhodes University on Saturday.
Hope is now 3-3 after the non-league loss.
Rhodes had two different three-goal runs during the second period. These unanswered runs helped keep Rhodes ahead of Hope from the 7:21 mark in the second period through the remainder of the game.
Hope outshot Rhodes during the loss, 20-16. The Orange and Blue also topped Rhodes in shots in all but the fourth period.
McCreery finished play with two goals, including the goal that put Hope in the lead to end the first period.
Six other Flying Dutchmen notched a single goal against Rhodes: junior Michael Mann (Plymouth, Michigan / University of Detroit-Jesuit), sophomore Sam Bowen (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern), freshman Will Jewell (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central), sophomore David Brace (Plymouth, Michigan / Plymouth), junior Blaine Hyde (Muskegon, Michigan / Reeths-Puffer), and sophomore Owen Mueller (Traverse City, Michigan / Saint Francis).
Senior goaltender John Shea (Commerce Township, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) made four saves for Hope.
The Flying Dutchmen play on the road again on Wednesday, March 22, against Illinois Wesleyan University at 7:30 p.m.
