Six Named MIAA Athletes of the Week

Six Hope College standouts have been chosen as Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Athletes of the Week: track and field's Zach Elmore, Jackson Player, Greta Robrahn, and Sara Schermerhorn, baseball's Graham O'Gorman and women's lacrosse's Maddie Yakes.

Elmore (Cadillac, Michigan / Cadillac) is MIAA Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career after a sixth-place finish in the pole vault at Emory.

A chemistry major, Elmore is ranked 40th in the nation after clearing 4.00 meters (13 feet, 1 ½ inches) at Emory.

Player (San Antonio, Texas / Winston Churchill HS) is the MIAA Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week after excelling at the Emory University (Ga.) Spring Break Classic last weekend and helped the Flying Dutchmen finish runner-up in the team standings.

The senior psychology major raced a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.17. Player's performance in the 110 hurdles is currently ranked ninth in the nation, while the relay time is 38th in the country. Player also ran on the fifth-place 4x100 relay (43.61).

Robrahn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) is the MIAA Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the third time in her career after helping the Flying Dutch place second at the Emory Spring Break Classic.

The sophomore and physical and health education major won the shot put with a toss of 12.52 meters (41-1 ½). Robrahn also finished sixth in the discus with a toss of 36.57 meters (120-0).

Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / T.C. West) is MIAA Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the first time after strong performances at Emory.

The freshman sprinted victories in both the 200 meters (25.15 seconds) and the 4x400 relay (3:59.23). Schermerhorn's time in the 200 is currently the fastest in the nation, while the relay performance is second.

Schermerhorn also finished the 100 meters dash in seventh place (12.17, ranking third in the country) and eighth in Division III 4x100 relay (49.1, eighth in the nation).

O'Gorman (Champaign, Illinois / Champaign Central) is MIAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the first time after firing the 11th no-hitter in Flying Dutchmen history during a 6-0 win against Lawrence University (Wis.) on Saturday in Davenport, Florida.

The political science major did not yield any hits in 89 pitches of a scheduled seven-inning game. It was Hope's first complete-game no-hitter since 2009. O'Gorman struck out five and walked four.

Yakes (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) is MIAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week after making nine saves in goal for the Flying Dutch during a 16-6 victory at Otterbein on Saturday.

The junior neuroscience major helped Hope record 14 clears with an 87.5 successful clear percentage. This is the first MIAA weekly honor this season and the second career one for Yakes.
