Women's Track Relay Ties Relay School Record in Georgia

It was a record afternoon for a group of Hope College women's sprinters.

The Flying Dutch's 4x100 relay posted a school-record-tying time of 48.34 seconds on Saturday during the Kennesaw State University (Ga.) Don McGarey Invitational.

Ava Schmidt, Grace Behrens, Helen Dodge and Sara Schermerhorn matched the 2009 run by Rachel Walton, Kara VandeGuchte, Emily Kreichelt and Nora Kuiper.

The relay placed fifth in a field of NCAA Division I and II relays.

Behrens and Dodge are seniors from Mishawaka, Indiana (Trinity School at Greenlawn HS) and Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan (Grosse Pointe South), respectively.

Schermerhorn and Schmidt are freshmen from Traverse City, Michigan (T.C. Central) and Saline, Michigan (Saline), respectively.

Hope finished eighth out of 14 teams with 31 points.

The Flying Dutch scored in five events.

Senior Ellie Jankowski (Granger, Indiana / Penn) raced to a third-place effort in the 1,500 meters at 4:44.77 and a sixth-place run in the 800 meters at 2:18.44. 

In the 1500, junior Olivia Quillan (Grandville, Michigan / Calvin Christian) took fifth at 4:49.00. Freshman Maddy Struck (Hainesville, Illinois / Grayslake Central) was eighth at 4:51.99.

In the 5,000 meters, junior Emily Scott (Naperville, Illinois / Naperville) recorded a fifth-place run of 19>19.85. Freshman Ellie Coderre (Naperville, Illinois / Naperville North) was seventh at 19:34.99.

In the javelin, junior Riki Ediger (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) posted a fifth-place toss of 36.4 meters (119 feet, 5 inches).

In the discus, sophomore Greta Robrahn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) finished seventh with a toss of 38.57 meters (126-6).

Hope's next meet is on Saturday, April 8, at Indiana Tech.
