Goalie John Shea Named MIAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week

Hope College goalie John Shea has been chosen as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week.

The senior business major from Commerce Township, Michigan (Detroit Catholic Central HS) earned his first MIAA weekly honor after leading the Flying Dutchmen to back-to-back victories, including a 9-6 win versus Aurora University (Ill.) on Wednesday and a 13-11 win against Carthage College (Wis.) on Saturday.

Wednesday's win marked the 100th in the program's NCAA history.

Shea totaled 29 during 120 minutes of action.

Against Aurora, Shea powered Hope to a come-from-behind victory with a 13-save effort and a .687 save percentage.

Against Carthage, the business major allowed for a come-from-behind win again by shutting the door on the Firebirds with 10 saves in the second half and 16 for the game. Shea's outlet passes led to four goals in transition.
