Indoor Track and Field Qualifies Six for NCAA Division III Championships

Six Hope College indoor track and field student-athletes have qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.

Seniors Grace Behrens, Ellie Jankowski, and Ana Tucker will compete for the Flying Dutch, along with freshmen Sara Schermerhorn and Madison Stern.

Junior Eli Meder will represent the Flying Dutchmen.

The NCAA Championships are Friday-Saturday, March 10-11, at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama, with Birmingham-Southern College and the City of Birmingham serving as hosts.

On Friday, Tucker (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow HS) will run at 3:50 p.m. ET in the women's 1-mile preliminaries looking to advance to Saturday's 4:10 p.m. final.

An exercise science major, Tucker is the second-fastest of 20 qualifiers with a run of 4:50.33.

At 5 p.m., Meder (Williamston, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) will compete in the men's 800-meter preliminaries and aim to move on to Saturday's 4:50 p.m. final.

A business and economics major, Meder is one of 20 qualifiers and tied for the 16th fastest time at 1:51.67.

At 5:30 p.m., Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / T.C. West) will race in the women's 200-meter preliminaries and will try to reach Saturday's 5:25 p.m. final.

Schermerhorn is the 18th fastest qualifier at 24.96 seconds but is only a half-second behind the top seed.

At 7:25 p.m., the women's distance medley relay of Jankowski (Granger, Indiana / Penn), Behrens (Mishawaka, Indiana / Trinity School at Greenlawn), Stern (Saline, Michigan / Saline) and Tucker will race.

They are one of 12 qualifying relays after recording a time of 11:47.02.

On Saturday, Tucker will run in the 3,000-meter final at 4:55 p.m.

Tucker is the seventh-fastest out of 20 qualifiers with a time of 9:36.11.
