Men's Lacrosse Topped by Albion in MIAA Opener

The Hope College men's lacrosse team dropped its MIAA opener at Albion College, 21-12, on Wednesday.

In a matchup of the top two teams in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll, the Flying Dutchmen played even on the road through the first two quarters.

Albion broke a 9-9 tie by scoring eight of the next 10 goals over a 10-minute span for a 17-10 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Britons (9-3, 2-0 MIAA) outshot Hope by a 67-44 margin for the game. 

Senior goalie John Shea (Commerce Township, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central HS) recorded a season-high 17 saves for the Flying Dutchmen.

The Flying Dutchmen received a team-best four goals from sophomore midfielder David Brace (Plymouth, Michigan / Plymouth).

Brace scored three times during the opening 8:55 to give Hope a 3-0 lead.

Junior attacker Michael Mann (Plymouth, Michigan / Detroit Jesuit) also reached double figures with three goals.

Seventeen of Albion's goals came from three players: Sam Puzevic with seven, Ethan Rottell with five and Jace Conley with five.

Hope's next game is Saturday, April 15, at 1 p.m. vs. Trine University at Van Andel Soccer Stadium. 

There will be a free team poster giveaway after the game as part of NCAA Division III Week.
