Three Chosen as MIAA Athletes of the Week

MIAA

Three Hope College student-athletes have received MIAA Athlete of the Week honors: Seth Almquist of men's golf, Julia Brown of women's lacrosse and Eli Meder of men's outdoor track.

Almquist (Minneapolis, Minnesota / Wayzata HS) is the MIAA Men's Golfer of the Week for the first time this spring and for the second time in his career.

The senior environmental geochemistry major earned medalist honors last week while leading the Flying Dutchmen to a first-place finish at the opening round of the MIAA's NCAA Division III Championships qualifier.

Almquist carded a 3-over-par 69 at Glendarin Hills Golf Club in Angola, Indiana, that gave Hope a 13-stroke lead heading into this week's final 36 holes.

Almquist joined an exclusive group of Hope golfers who shot sub-70 rounds in MIAA Tournament play.

Brown (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) is the MIAA Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.

The freshman attacker averaged eight points per game during two Flying Dutch victories that launched Hope into sole possession of first place in the MIAA standings.

On Saturday, Brown scored seven goals and registered two assists during a 20-6 victory at Alma College. Brown became the fifth member of the Flying Dutch to score at least seven goals within a single game.

On Tuesday, Brown recorded two goals and five assists during a 20-5 victory at home vs. Trine University.

Meder (Williamston, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) is the MIAA Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the first time.

The junior business and economics major clocked the MIAA's fastest time this season in the 800 meters with a run of 1 minute, 52.04 seconds at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Invitational.

Meder is ranked 20th in NCAA Division III in the 800.

Meder also ran the second leg of Hope's 4x400 relay that recorded the MIAA's fastest time this season at 3:19.93. The relay finished runner-up at the Wheaton College (Ill.) Invitational.
