Michael Mann Ties Men's Lacrosse Goals Record during 24-4 Win at Alma

Junior attacker Michael Mann joined an elite group of Hope College men's lacrosse goal scorers during a 24-4 victory at Alma College on Wednesday.

The public accounting major from Plymouth, Michigan (University of Detroit Jesuit) tied the school record with eight goals against the Scots.

Mann joined two other Flying Dutchmen who previously accomplished the feat: Caleb Digison at Calvin in 2014 and Josh Kamstra vs. Wilmington College (Ohio) in 2013.

Mann also recorded an assist for a season-high nine points.

The victory clinched the No. 2 seed in next week's MIAA Tournament for the Flying Dutchmen (10-5, 4-1 MIAA).

It also gave Hope a 10-win season for a sixth consecutive fully-completed season. The Flying Dutchmen started the 2020 season 3-0 before the remainder was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wednesday's game was never in doubt. Hope led 8-0 after the first quarter, then 18-0 at halftime.

Mann scored two of the Flying Dutchmen's first four goals and seven during the first two quarters.

Mann was one of 12 Hope goal scorers.

Sophomore attacker Sam Bowen (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern) chipped in three goals for the Flying Dutchmen.

Freshman attacker Alex Bailey (Oxford, Michigan / Oxford), senior attacker Alex Goodall (Clarkston, Michigan / Lutheran Northwest) and freshman attacker Will Tobias (San Diego, California / St. Augustine) each scored two goals apiece.

Senior attacker Colin Stecco (East Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) recorded a season-high six assists and one goal.

The final margin of victory was the largest for the Flying Dutchmen against Alma (2-10, 0-5 MIAA).

Hope's next game is Friday, April 28, at 7 p.m. against Calvin University for Senior Day at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
