The Hope College women's golf team finished third at its 36-hole, two-day Spring Invitational at Clearbrook Golf Club in Saugatuck.

On Saturday, the Flying Dutch carded a final-round 346 for a third-place total of 690.

First-place Calvin University finished fourth strokes ahead of the Flying Dutch at 686 (347-339). Trine University was runner-up, one stroke behind the Knights at 687 (351-336).

Hope placed 36 strokes ahead of fourth-place Albion College (365-361—726). Olivet College was fifth at 729 (365-364).

Senior Rita Cheney (Mason, Michigan / Mason HS) tied for fourth place individually at 169 (84-85).

Calvin's Chandler Sjoerdsma claimed medalist honors with a 16-over-par 160 (79-81).

Junior Abby Fansler (Muskegon, Michigan / Reeths-Puffer) finished one stroke behind Cheney, her teammate, in sixth at 170 (86-84).

Freshman Sara Muir (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) tied for eighth at 174 (86-88).

Junior Abby Derocher (Farmington, Michigan / Farmington North) and freshman Caydee Constant (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) tied for 15th at 179. Derocher had a final round 89, Constant a 91.

The Flying Dutch also received second-round scores from four golfers playing as individuals:

• 87 from sophomore Sarah Owens (Charlotte, Michigan / Charlotte);
• 95 from sophomore Jordan Winters (New Carlisle, Indiana / New Prairie);
• 97 from freshman Sammi Campbell (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven); 
• and 98 from freshman Hannan Finch (Dexter, Michigan / Dexter).

Hope returns to action on Tuesday, April 11, at 1 p.m. at the opening round of the MIAA's 54-hole NCAA Division III Championships qualifier hosted by Saint Mary's College at Ebel Park Golf Course in South Bend, Indiana.
