Five Qualify for NCAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Five Hope College women's runners are New York-bound for next week's NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Senior Ana Tucker and freshman Sara Schermerhorn will race in two events apiece. Seniors Grace Behrens and Julie Timperman and junior Erin Moran will compete in one race apiece.

The championships will be held Thursday-Saturday, May 25-27, at the Polisseni Track & Field Complex at St. John Fisher University in Rochester, New York. 

For each individual event contested, including the decathlon and heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. 

For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition. 

Tucker (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow) is seeded fourth in both the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters.

The recent graduate and exercise science major clocked a qualifying 5,000-meter time of 16 minutes, 10.91 seconds, and a qualifying 10,000-meter run of 34:24.97. Both times are school records. 

Kassie Paker of Loras College (Iowa) is seeded first in both events at 15:37.00 in the 5,000 meters and 32:36.22 in the 10,000 meters. 

Parker and Tucker are part of a 10K field that features four of Division III's fastest 10 all-time times. St. Benedict University (Minn.) junior Fiona Smith went 33:23.89, while Carleton College (Minn.) junior Claire Mayfield went 34:08.69.

In the 200 meters, Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) sits ninth after recording a qualifying sprint of 24.39 seconds. Schermerhorn is 0.04 off the school record.

Whittier College (Calif.) senior Jasmyn Crawford is seeded first at 23.81.

In the 4x400 relay, Hope is ranked 10th after Timperman (Lafayette, Indiana / Faith Christian), Schermerhorn, Moran (Arlington Heights, Illinois / John Hersey) and Behrens (Mishawaka, Indiana / Trinity School at Greenlawn) posted a school-record time of 3:49.54.

Loras is seeded first at 3:40.61.
