Five Chosen for College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Teams

Five Hope College student-athletes have been selected to the 2023 Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators: Kerrigan Brown, Juli Kirkpatrick and Mia Skibins from women's lacrosse, and Rita Cheney and Grace VanDellen from women's golf.

The Academic All- America® recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All- America® honorees will be announced on Thursday, June 22.

The Academic All-District® honor is the second for VanDellen and the first for Brown, Cheney Kirkpatrick, and Skibins.

VanDellen (Oxford, Michigan / Lutheran Northwest HS) earned All-MIAA honors for the third time last fall as a second-team selection while majoring in mechanical engineering. A three-time Women's Golf Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete, VanDellen helped the Flying Dutch qualify for the spring's MIAA Tournament.

Cheney (Mason, Michigan / Mason) recently graduated after majoring in biology. A three-time Women's Golf Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete, Cheney was one of the top golfers for the Flying Dutch.

Brown (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt) majored in exercise science during a breakthrough sophomore season on the field for the MIAA regular-season and tournament champion Flying Dutch. Brown recorded career-highs with 18 goals, 37 assists, 16 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers.

Kirkpatrick (Granger, Indiana / Penn) pursued a major in exercise science while earning All-MIAA Second Team honors as a midfielder for Hope. The sophomore registered career-highs with 18 goals, 32 assists and 19 ground balls in 18 games.

Skibins (Granger, Indiana / Penn) majored in nursing as a sophomore while starting on the Flying Dutch's defense. The sophomore recorded a career-high 36 ground balls and caused 14 turnovers in 18 games.
