Women's Golf Tops Calvin in Season-Opening Match

Four rounds within one stroke of each other propelled the Hope College women's golf team to a season-opening, seven-stroke victory against Calvin University on Tuesday.

The Flying Dutch's 'A' team fired a team total of 335 during the non-league event at Clearbrook Golf Club in Saugatuck. Calvin's 'A' team finished at 342.

Hope's 'B' team carded a 347. Calvin's 'B' team shot a 428.

Freshman Allyson Zuidema (Northville, Michigan / Northville HS) topped the Flying Dutch with an 11-over par 83.

Three teammates followed Zuidema with 84s: senior Abby Fansler (Muskegon, Michigan / Reeths-Puffer), sophomore Caydee Constant (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) and freshman Rachael Jones (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City).

Sophomore Sara Muir (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) chipped in an 85.

Freshman Jaiden Winters (New Carlisle, Indiana / New Prairie) carded an 85 to lead Hope's 'B' team.

The Flying Dutch also received 86s from sophomore Hannah Finch (Dexter, Michigan / Dexter) and freshman Jordan Winters (New Carlisle, Indiana / New Prairie), an 87 from junior Sarah Owens (Charlotte, Michigan / Charlotte and freshman Kylie Gernaat (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian), and a 92 from senior Abby Derocher (Farmington, Michigan / Farmington North).

Calvin's Chandler Sjoerdsma led the field with a 75.
