Abby Fansler Shoots Lowest For Women's Golf In Opening of 36-Hole Event vs. Albion

The Hope College women's golf team is aiming to overcome a two-stroke deficit against Albion College in a 36-hole, two-day event.

On Friday, the Flying Dutch shot a team score of 348 at Clearbrook Golf Club in Saugatuck, while Albion finished at 346.

The two teams complete their head-to-head weekend tournament on Saturday, Sept. 2, with a 1 p.m. round at Cascade Golf Course in Jackson.

Senior Abby Fansler (Muskegon, Michigan / Reeths-Puffer JS) led Hope by firing a 9-over-par 81 at Clearbrook and shared first-round leader honors with Albion's Emily Abramczyk.

The rest of the Flying Dutch's top group featured rounds from freshman Rachael Jones (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City) with an 87, sophomore Sara Muir (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) with an 89, freshman Allyson Zuidema (Northville, Michigan Northville) with 91, and sophomore Caydee Constant (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) with a 92.

Six others also golfed for Hope.

Freshman Jaiden Winters (New Carlisle, Indiana / New Prairie) fired an 84.

Senior Abby Derocher (Farmington, Michigan / Farmington North) chipped in an 86.

Freshman Jordan Winters (New Carlisle, Indiana / New Prairie) and junior Sarah Owens (Charlotte, Michigan / Charlotte) each carded 90s.

Freshman Kylie Gernaat (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian) and sophomore Hannah Finch (Dexter, Michigan / Dexter) shot 99 and 102, respectively.
