Four Named as MIAA Men's Athletes of the Week

Four from Hope College have been selected as Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Athletes of the Week: Liam Casey in men's golf, Thomas De Vries in men's soccer, Cole Pauly in men's soccer, and Connor Vachon in men's cross country.

Casey (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central HS) is the MIAA Men's Golfer of the Week for the first time this season and the fourth time in his career.

The sophomore shot rounds of 4-under-par 67 and 71 last week to claim medalist honors and lead the Flying Dutchmen to a first-place finish at Carthage College's Strawberry Classic.

De Vries (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian) is the MIAA Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career.

The junior midfielder and public accounting/business major recorded points in each of the Flying Dutchmen's three victories last week against the University of Olivet, the No. 3-ranked University of Chicago and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.).

De Vries scored a goal during a 3-0 victory against Olivet and during a 1-0 victory against Rose-Hulman while also assisting on the game-winner against Chicago.

Pauly (Mundelein, Illinois / Mundelein) is the MIAA Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the second time in his career.

Vachon (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison) is the MIAA Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the fifth time in his career.

The secondary education major clocked a fifth-place finish at Wheaton's invitational with a run of 24:39.3 that helped the regionally-ranked Flying Dutchmen place third out of 18 teams on Saturday.

The sophomore defender anchored a Hope defense that did not allow a goal during three games and 270 minutes of action last week.
