Women's Soccer Trades PK Goals with Chicago, Settles for a Tie

The Hope College women's soccer team collected a second-half goal to tally the 1-1 tie against the University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Madison Holloway (Macatawa, Michigan / Holland Christian HS) gave the Flying Dutch a 1-0 lead by converting a penalty kick in the 50th minute after sophomore Ainsley Harris (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian) was pulled down in the box on a scoring chance.

Chicago evened the score eight minutes later with a penalty-kick conversion of its own.

Freshman goalkeeper Clara Feenstra (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) nearly stopped Hannah Rittenhouse's shot — getting a tip of the ball but not enough to stop it.

Feenstra collected a season-high 18 saves for the Flying Dutch.

Chicago outshot Hope by a 28-10 margin.

Entering play on Saturday, only 17 other NCAA Division III goalkeepers had made 19 or more saves within a game.

Lily Pfefferie of Salem State (Mass.) and Trista Cleaves of Sweet Briar (Va.) share the national lead with 24 saves in a single game.

The Flying Dutch are now 2-1-4 on the season.

Chicago is 5-1-2.

Hope returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 26. The Flying Dutch kick off MIAA play as Adrian College comes to Van Andel Soccer Stadium at 5 p.m.
