Women's Golf Finishes Seventh at 33-Team Midwest Region Fall Classic

The Hope College women's golf team fired nearly identical rounds to earn a seventh-place finish at the Midwest Region Fall Classic this weekend.

The Flying Dutch shot team scores of 323 and 324 at the 36-hole, two-day event at Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville, Wisconsin. Hope finished one and two strokes off of its lowest rounds of the season.

Senior Abby Fansler (Muskegon, Michigan / Muskegon Reeths-Puffer HS) and freshman Rachael Jones (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City) topped the Flying Dutch by tying for 13th place out of 194 golfers at 13-over-par.

Fansler carded rounds of 78 and 79.

Jones chipped in a 77 and 80.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's Kallie Lux was individual medalist at 4-over (74-74—168).

Wisconsin-Whitewater rallied past first-round leader Adrian College over the final round to shoot a winning total of 623 (318-305).

Adrian placed runner-up (317-311—628) and finished ahead of University of Dubuque, Iowa (323-314—637), Augustana College, Illinois (324-315—639), Saint Mary's College (318-325—643), and Aurora University, Illinois (324-321—645).

Hope also received rounds of 81 and 85 on Friday and Saturday, respectively, from sophomore Sara Muir (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian), who tied for 52nd

Freshman Allyson Zuidema (Northville, Michigan / Northville) recorded scores of 87 and 80 on Friday and Saturday, respectively, to tie for 58th place.

Freshman Jaiden Winters (New Carlisle, Indiana / New Prairie) shot 87 and 88.

The Flying Dutch return to competition on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Calvin University at Thornapple Pointe Golf Club.
