Men's Soccer Shuts Out St. Norbert, Plays to Draw

Goalkeeper Daniel Hesselbein delivered in the net again for the Hope College men's soccer team.

The junior from Barrington, Illinois (Barrington Community) recorded a match-high five saves to help the Flying Dutchmen secure a scoreless draw against St. Norbert College (Wis.) on Saturday in front of a Van Andel Soccer Stadium crowd of 555.

It was Hope's second scoreless game of the opening weekend after tying No. 24 Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday.

The Flying Dutchmen shut out St. Norbert after the Green Knights scored twice at No. 19 Calvin University during a 4-2 loss on Friday.

Two of Hesselbein's saves came during the second half.

St. Norbert (1-1) outshot Hope by an 11-7 margin during the non-league game.

Freshman Reece Brown (Livonia, Michigan / Adlai E. Stevenson) and senior Ethan Jansen (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) each recorded first-half shots on goal for the Flying Dutchmen.

St. Norbert goalie Nate Jocz finished with two saves.

Hope's next game is on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. against Cornerstone University at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
