Women's Soccer Ties Central (Iowa)

In an all-Dutch matchup, the Hope College women's soccer team dominated everywhere but the scoreboard.

The Flying Dutch settled for a 1-1 tie at the Central College on Saturday in Pella, Iowa despite recording a 32-5 edge in shots.

Central keeper Zoey Sizemore was credited with 17 of the Dutch's 18 saves. 

Hope keeper Clara Feenstra (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville HS) needed to make only one save.

The Flying Dutch outshot Central 18-2 during the first half and 14-3 during the second half.

Senior midfielder Elisa Melville (Jackson, Michigan / Lumen Christi) tied the score by scoring in the 24th minute. It was Melville's second career goal.

The goal came shortly after a cornerback. Senior defender and fellow co-captain Jenna Mustapha (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) was credited with her fifth career assist.

Central grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute on an unassisted goal from Paige Cahill.

On Friday, Central kicked off its season with a 2-0 victory against Saint Mary's College from the MIAA.

The Flying Dutch are 1-0-1 on the season after defeating 23rd-ranked Wartburg College, 3-1, on Friday.

Hope's next game is the home opener on Friday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. against Centre College (Ky.) at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
