Annie Lockett Propels No. 2-Ranked Volleyball Past Swarthmore, Baldwin Wallace

Annie Lockett delivered a memorable performance for the second-ranked Hope College volleyball team on Saturday.

The senior from Mason, Ohio (William Mason HS) topped the Flying Dutch in kills in both three-set victories against Swarthmore College (Pennsylvania) and Baldwin Wallace University (Ohio) at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Lockett slammed home 14 kills during a 25-8, 25-22, 25-22 victory against 11-win Swarthmore, then 15 during a 25-17, 25-20, 25-16 victory against 11-win Baldwin Wallace. The business major hit over .300 in each match.

The Flying Dutch extended their winning streak to a season-high eight matches and raised their record to 16-2 overall.

Hope's next match is Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. at Kalamazoo College. The Flying Dutch lead the MIAA with a 3-0 league record.

Against Swarthmore (11-6), Lockett started a match-opening run of 5-0 by blocking a kill attempt from Alexia Enache for a point against Hope's Centennial Conference opponent.

Three consecutive kills from Lockett fueled a 6-0 run late in the match. Lockett hit .333 for the match.

Junior Lauren Lee (Plymouth, Michigan / Skyline) orchestrated the Hope attack, recording a match-high 28 assists and five kills.

Junior Brooke Fox (Saunemin, Illinois / Pontiac Township) chipped in six kills against Swarthmore. 

Hope outhit Swarthmore .252 to .077.

Against Baldwin Wallace (11-9), Lockett set up the first set point with a kill. The business major followed a run of six points that broke up the set. Senior Alison DeWeerd (Kentwood, Michigan / South Christian) recorded four of her 13 kills during the decisive stretch.

DeWeerd went on to hit .458 against the Flying Dutch's Ohio Athletic Conference opponent, Lockett .306.

Lee totaled 44 assists. 

Senior Samantha Seib (Elkhorn, Wisconsin / Catholic Central) collected a match-high 25 digs.
