Women's Cross Country Takes Runner-Up at 13-Team invite in Muskegon

The Hope College women's cross country team recorded three of the fastest 15 runs to claim second place at the 13-team Muskegon Community College Invitational Saturday.

The Flying Dutch totaled 70 points to place behind only NCAA Division II Hillsdale College, which totaled 22 points. Hope finished six points ahead of third-place Calvin University. 

Freshman Maddie VandeBunte, senior Laura Taylor and junior Lexi Deighan led the Flying Dutch's charge at the event hosted by the University Golf Course in Muskegon that featured runners from NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA, and the NJCAA.

VandeBunte (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison HS) clocked a 13th-place, 5K run of 18 minutes, 46.99 seconds.

Hillsdale freshman Evyn Humphrey topped the field of 156 with a time of 17:32.36.

Taylor (Yorkville, Illinois / Yorkville) recorded a 14th-place effort for Hope of 18:49.53.

Deighan (Birmingham, Michigan / Seaholm) took 15th at 18:50.92.

Senior Audrey White (Norton Shores, Michigan / Mona Shores) crossed the finish line in 20th place at 18:58.74.

Junior Madison Stern (Saline, Michigan / Saline) completed Hope's scoring by clocking a 23rd-place time of 19:07.68.
