Women's Soccer Ties School Scoring Record, Rolls in MIAA Opener

It was a bountiful beginning to MIAA play for the Hope College women's soccer team.

The Flying Dutch matched their school record for most goals in a single game during an 11-0 victory at The University of Olivet on Wednesday. The victory was also the program's 400th all-time.

Nine goal scorers powered Hope to equal the 1989 mark, also set against Olivet.

The Flying Dutch improved to 6-2-1 overall while pushing their winning streak to six.

Seniors Carley Wagasky (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven HS) and Margaret Owsiany (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville Central) scored two goals apiece for Hope.

It was Wagasky's sixth consecutive game with at least one goal, the longest stretch since Sarah Mikesell accomplished the feat during the 2021 season against Albion College, Adrian College, Kalamazoo College, Olivet and Kalamazoo again.

With nine goals this season, Wagasky already has matched her career-high.

After junior Ainsley Harris (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian) opened the scoring 5 minutes in with her second goal of the season, Wagasky recorded Hope's second and third goals off assists from sophomore Bri Rose (Hudsonville, Michigan / Unity Christian) on corner kicks.

Wagasky scored first with a header, then kicked in her second goal of the game.

Rose finished with a game-high three assists, giving her a team-best five on the season.

Harris also collected three assists on the day, her first of the season.

The Flying Dutch led Olivet (2-6-2, 0-1 MIAA) by a 5-0 halftime margin.

Owsiany scored in each half for her first two goals of the season.

Hope also received goals from sophomore Heidi Berkey (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven); sophomore Kayla Cannon (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian); junior Avery Coykendall (Plymouth, Michigan / Canton); sophomore Olivia Dieppa (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville); junior Claudia Folkert (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Central); and freshman Sydney Mefford (Westfield, Indiana / Westfield).

The Flying Dutch's next game is Saturday, Oct. 5, at noon vs. Alma College at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
