The Hope College volleyball team meant business on Wednesday against The University of Olivet.
In a sweeping victory, the No. 2-ranked Flying Dutch hit the 20-win mark on the season after taking all three sets, 25-17, 25-14, 25-20, at DeVos Fieldhouse.
The win was the 80th consecutive victory for the Flying Dutch against the Comets. Hope last lost to Olivet in 1984 in three-set and five-set matches.
Hope (20-2, 6-0 MIAA) stayed atop the league standings with the win and in the driver's seat toward repeating as MIAA regular-season champion.
The Orange and Blue leads Albion College and Calvin University by one game in the loss column. Both Albion and Calvin are 4-1 in league play; Hope holds the head-to-head tiebreaker against both teams, and Albion and Calvin square off against each other on Friday, Nov. 1.
The Flying Dutch play at Alma on Nov. 1 and could clinch at least a share of the MIAA title as well as the top seed for the league tournament with a victory.
Against Olivet, senior Annie Lockett (Mason, Ohio / William Mason HS) led Hope with 11 kills on a .579 hitting percentage.
Senior Addie VanderWeide (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) added 10 kills against the Comets (10-14, 1-4 MIAA).
Senior Alison DeWeerd (Kentwood, Michigan / South Christian) had seven kills.
Senior Samantha Seib (Elkhorn, Wisconsin) and DeWeerd each served a match-leading three aces.
Junior Lauren Lee (Plymouth, Michigan / Skyline) recorded 39 assists.
Hope returns to action on Friday, Oct. 25, at 6:30 p.m. at DeVos Fieldhouse for a non-league rivalry matchup against Calvin. The match will not count toward the MIAA standings.
