ACHA Men's Hockey Tops Miami (Ohio) and Pittsburgh-Johnstown

The Hope College ice hockey team skated to two victories at Patterson Ice Arena in Grand Rapids last weekend.

The Flying Dutchmen defeated Miami University (Ohio), 6-2, on Friday and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, 6-3, on Saturday.

Hope improved to 3-1 on the season.

On Saturday, the Flying Dutchmen scored three times during the first 15 minutes against Pittsburgh-Johnstown and never trailed.

Forward Brenden Tarpening (Fenton, Michigan / Flint Powers HS) scored twice to lead Hope. The junior struck for the game's first goal at the 4-minute, 18-second mark. 

Freshman left wing Seve Litz (Washington Township, Michigan / De La Salle Collegiate) snapped a 1-1 tie by scoring 1:14 after Pittsburgh-Johnstown pulled even.

Tarpening's second goal of the game extended the lead with 4:44 remaining in the first period.

Sophomore right wing Brady Breit (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center) and junior defenseman Michael Stechschulte (Rochester, Michigan / Cranbrook Kingswood) chipped in two assists apiece.

Freshman goalie Sebastian Wigfield (Blue Hills, Maine / Saint Ignatius College Prep) made 15 saves.

On Friday, the Flying Dutchmen received goals from six different skates against Miami.

Junior Jake Onstott (Zeeland, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) recorded a goal and an assist to top Hope.

Junior forward Gunnar Suidinski (Wyoming, Michigan / Grandville) added two assists.

Senior goalie Maclane Schick (Kohler, Wisconsin / Kohler) stopped 18 shots for the Flying Dutchmen.

Hope begins Michigan Collegiate Athletic Conference West Division play this weekend with a two-game series: Friday, Oct. 11, at 9 p.m. vs. Western Michigan University at Wings Ice Arena in Kalamazoo and Saturday, Oct. 12, at 7:30 p.m. vs. WMU at Griff's IceHouse West.
