Women's Cross Country Finishes 13th at NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional

The Hope College women's cross country team finished 13th at the 39-team NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional on Saturday in Shelbyville, Indiana.

In a field of 270 runners, senior Maddy Struck (Hainesville, Illinois / Grayslake Central HS) topped the Flying Dutch with a 6K effort of 22 minutes, 54.0 seconds. Struck finished 31st.

Junior Molly Durow (Glenview, Illinois / Glenbrook South) placed 65th by posting a run of 23:36.6.

Freshman Maddie VandeBunte (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison) took 79th at 23:54.5.

Sophomore Annika Sytsma (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian) finished 84th at 24:03.4.

Junior Lexi Deighan (Birmingham, Michigan / Seaholm) recorded an 89th-place run of 24:05.6.

Sophomore Amanda Markham (Hoffman Estates, Illinois / William Fremd) placed 104th at 24:17.6.

Senior Audrey White (Norton Shores, Michigan / Mona Shores) took 105th at 24:17.7.

DePauw University (Indiana) won the regional with 91 points and earned the region's automatic bid for the NCAA Division III Championships. Hope totaled 343 points.

Faith Duncan of Wilmington College (Ohio) took first by clocking a time of 20:59.

The Flying Dutch have finished 13th or higher in every Great Lakes Regional since 1982.

"It was a strong team showing by the ladies with a promising future as evident by the performance of the non-seniors," head coach Mark Northuis said. "Only two of the ladies had experience running in the NCAA-level championships, so they represented Hope very well. Maddy Struck and Audrey White concluded their collegiate cross country careers with 3 league team titles and three NCAA National Championship appearances."
