ACHA Men's Hockey Ices Michigan for Series Sweep

The Hope College men's hockey team is riding a five-game winning streak after sweeping the University of Michigan's ACHA Division 3 team, 5-0 and 7-3, this weekend.

The Flying Dutchmen improved their record to 14-2 overall heading into next weekend's series against Calvin University.

On Friday, Hope won 5-0 after jumping to a 3-0 lead during the first period.

Sophomore center Jake Nanna (Muskegon, Michigan / Mona Shores HS) opened the scoring 3 minutes, 15 seconds into the game.

Senior defenseman Nolan Holtrop (Walker, Michigan / Kenowa Hills) extended the lead to 2-0 at the 11:54 mark.

Junior center Jake Onstott (Zeeland, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) closed the commanding first period at the 15:46 mark by striking for the first of his two goals in the game off an assist from Holtrop.

Senior goalkeeper Maclane Schick (Kohler, Wisconsin / Kohler) recorded his third shutout of the week with 20 saves.

On Saturday, the Flying Dutchmen broke open a close game with a two-goal second period that put them ahead 5-3.

Holtrop pushed Hope's lead to 4-2 6:40 into the second period by scoring the second of his two goals in the game.

Junior forward Keegan McNamara (Linden, Michigan / Fenton) also chipped in two goals.

Freshman goalkeeper Sebastian Wigfield (Blue Hills, Maine / Saint Ignatius College Prep) collected 25 saves and assisted on one goal.

Hope returns to action on Friday, Nov. 22, at 7:30 p.m. against Calvin at Griff's IceHouse West.

Calvin hosts the series finale on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m. at Eagles Ice Center in Grand Rapids.
