ACHA Men's Hockey Skates to a Win and a Tie vs. Calvin

The Hope College men's hockey team skated to a victory and a tie against Calvin University last weekend in an American Collegiate Hockey Conference Division 3 series.

The Flying Dutchmen defeated Calvin, 5-2, on Friday at Griff's IceHouse West and tied, 5-5 in overtime, on Saturday at Eagles Ice Center in Grand Rapids.

Hope is now 15-2-1 on the season, including a 5-0-1 mark in the Michigan College Hockey Conference West Division standings.

On Friday, the Flying Dutchmen scored the final four goals of the game, three of which came during the second period.

Sophomore center Colton Laufer (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian HS) tied the score at 2-2 by netting his first goal of the season 6 minutes, 28 seconds into the period.

Eight minutes later, sophomore center Jake Nanna (Muskegon, Michigan / Mona Shores) and junior forward Gunnar Suidinski (Wyoming, Michigan / Grandville) scored eight seconds apart to put Hope ahead. It was Nanna's second goal of the season and Suidinski's fourth.

Senior goalie Maclane Schick (Kohler, Wisconsin / Kohler) made 18 saves.

On Saturday, the Flying Dutchmen jumped to a 5-2 lead before the Knights rallied with three third-period goals. Harry Ottsen delivered the equalizer with 13 seconds remaining in regulation.

Junior Jake Onstott (Zeeland, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) registered a hat trick for Hope.

Prior to the game, a moment of silence was held for longtime Calvin head coach Mike Petrusma, who died on Friday at the age of 61 due to complications from an extended illness.  Saturday's contest continued as scheduled in keeping with the wishes of the Petrusma family.

The Flying Dutchmen's next series is Friday, Dec. 6-7, at home vs. Saint Vincent College (Pennsylvania) at Griff's IceHouse West. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
