ACHA Men's Hockey Rebounds, Earns Split with Oakland

Casen Faustyn helped insure the Hope College ice hockey team bounced back quickly from the end of a nine-game winning streak.

The senior defenseman scored twice during the second period to help the Flying Dutchmen defeat Oakland University, 3-1, on Saturday at Griff's IceHouse West.

Hope rebounded from a 4-3 defeat on Friday at Oakland to hand the Golden Grizzlies their second ACHA Division 3 loss in 12 games and improve to 10-2 on the season.

On Saturday, the Flying Dutchmen jumped ahead with 1 minute, 58 seconds remaining in the first period when freshman center Ryan Jaros (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central HS) delivered a power-play goal.

Faustyn (Okemos, Michigan / Okemos) extended the Flying Dutchmen's lead to 2-0 by striking 2 minutes, 3 seconds into the second period.

Six minutes later, Faustyn gave Hope a 3-0 lead with his fourth goal of the season.

Freshman goalkeeper Sebastian Wigfield (Blue Hills, Maine / Saint Ignatius College Prep) stopped 29 shots for the Flying Dutchmen.

On Friday, Hope grabbed an early lead on a goal from junior defenseman Brady Kingsbury (Saginaw, Michigan / Michigan International Prep) 7:53 into the first period.

Oakland scored the next four goals between the 12:23 mark of the first period and the 10:34 mark of the second period.

Junior defenseman Austin Ieuter (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow) delivered goals 51 seconds into the third period and with 4:25 remaining, but the Flying Dutchmen could not get the equalizer.

Hope's next two-game series is against Purdue University Northwest Division 1 teams. On Friday, Nov. 8, at 6:30 p.m., the two teams will play at the Kube Sports Complex in Hammond, Indiana.

The Flying Dutchmen will host the series finale on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. at Griff's IceHouse West.
