Five Selected for D3football All-Region Teams on Defense

Five members of the MIAA champion Hope College football team have been voted to the D3football.com All-Region Teams for Defense: linebackers Cole Luhmann and Brad Raredon, safety Sam Cochran, defensive lineman Jack Lamancusa and cornerback Austin Harvey.

Luhmann is among 13 to receive first-team accolades. Cochran and Lamancusa made the second team, Harvey and Raredon the third team.

Region 4 includes teams from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, North Coast Athletic Conference and the Ohio Athletic Conference.

The Flying Dutchmen also put four on the D3football all-region teams for offense and special teams.

Hope finished 11-1 after winning its first NCAA playoff game and reaching the third round of the postseason for the first time. The Flying Dutchmen also recorded their first 10-0 regular season.

Luhmann (Rochester, Michigan / Stoney Creek HS) topped Hope with 87 total tackles, including 36 solos, in 12 games. 

The mathematics major helped the Flying Dutchmen rank among the top defenses in NCAA Division III. Luhmann previously was selected as an American Football Football Coaches Association First Team All-American, MIAA Most Valuable Defensive Player and All-MIAA First Team.

Cochran (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) is an all-region selection for the first time.

The senior posted career-highs with 44 tackles, including 23 solos, and four passes defended. A business and communication major, Cochran also claimed All-MIAA recognition for the first time.

Lamancusa (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) made a significant impact in his first season at Hope.

The freshman finished with 43 tackles, including 18 solos, and four sacks. Lamancusa also was voted to the All-MIAA First Team.

Harvey (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) recorded career-highs in tackles with 21, including 15 solos, and pass defended with five.

The sophomore also intercepted one pass. Harvey was named to the All-MIAA First Team.

Raredon (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) registered career-highs with 51 tackles, including 28 solos, and interceptions with five.

The sophomore totaled six passes defended, a career-best. Raredon also forced one fumble.
