Women's Track and Field Wins Two Events, Takes Third at Aquinas

The Hope College women's indoor track and field team posted two first-place performances on Friday at Aquinas College.

In the 4x400 relay, sophomore Frances Cozzens (Lyman, New Hampshire / Saint Johnsbury HS), junior Jasmine Zimmerman (Byron Center, Michigan / Home School), freshman Rebecca Markham (Hoffman Estates, Illinois / William Fremd) and senior Natalie Hammer (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) clocked a winning time of 4 minutes, 14.02 seconds.

In the shot put, junior Greta Robrahn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) recorded a first-place and season-best throw of 12.90 meters (42 feet, 4 inches).

The Flying Dutch finished third at the seven-team event featuring MIAA and Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference teams. With 136.5 points, Hope trailed Aquinas (159) and second-place Cornerstone University (141.5). 

Hope scored in 10 more events.

In the triple jump, junior Allison Schram (Fenton, Michigan / Hartland) placed runner-up after leaping 9.17 meters (30-1).

In the high jump, sophomore Natalie Christnagel (Grosse Ile, Michigan / Grosse Ile) finished third by clearing 1.59 meters (5-2 ¼).

In the 60-meter dash, sophomore Ava Schmidt (Saline, Michigan / Saline) placed fourth by running 8.17 seconds.

In the 200 meters, Zimmerman took fifth at 27.26 seconds. Sophomore Catherine Leahy (Elk Rapids, Michigan / Elk Rapids) was eighth at 27.66.

In the 400 meters, five Hope runners scored. Freshman Stella Farmer (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton) led the charge with a third-place time of 1:01.58.

Farmer was followed by Zimmermann in fourth at 1:02.24, Markham in fifth at 1:-02.57, Cozzens in sixth at 1:04.15 and sophomore Molly Durow (Glenview, Illinois / Glenbrook South) in eighth at 1:04.44.

In the 800 meters, senior Jessie Schamanek (Rochester, Michigan / Stoney Creek) finished fourth with a run of 2:35.68. Junior Audrey White (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) was fifth at 2:35.99.

Six Flying Dutch runners also scored in the mile.

Junior Laura Taylor (Yorkville, Illinois / Yorkville) posted the top time at 5:34.64. Taylor was followed by freshman Alyson Kelly (Gaines, Michigan / Linden) in third at 5:35.90, White in fourth at 5:36.58, sophomore Emma DeJoy (Pittsford, New York / Our Lady of Mercy) in fifth at 5:42.12, freshman Grace Baldauff (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania / Northgate) in sixth at 5:45.26, and senior Katie Cole (Batavia, Illinois / Batavia) in seventh at 5:45.97.

Four Hope runners scored in the 3,000 meters.

Sophomore Alexis Deighan (Birmingham, Michigan / Seaholm) led the pack with a third-place time of 11:11.45. Deighan was followed by junior Kennedy Kuhlmann (Grand Blanc, Michigan / Grand Blanc) in fifth at 11:27.96, freshman Paige King (Glenbard, Illinois / Glenbard West) in sixth at 11:30.45 and freshman Brigit Foley (New Hudson Michigan  / St. Catherine of Siena Academy) in eighth at 12:05.11.

In the pole vault, senior Bethany Colbrunn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) finished fifth at 2.87 meters (9-5). Freshman Abigail Cumings (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) was seventh at 2.87 meters (9-5).

In the long jump, sophomore Meredith Kramer (Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan / Grosse Pointe South) placed fifth at 4.65 meters (15-3 ¼). Schram was seventh at 4.52 meters (14-10).

In the shot put, sophomore Kamryn Bice (Monroe, Michigan / Monroe) took seventh with a toss of 11.58 meters (38-0). Schram was fourth at 1.49 meters (4-10 ½).

Hope's next meet is Friday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. at the Grand Valley State University Tune-Up.
