Women's Indoor Track/Field Posts Top 10 Finishes in Seven Events at GVSU Tune-Up

The Hope College women's indoor track and field team posted Top 10 performances in seven events on Friday at the Grand Valley State University Tune-Up.

In the 60-meter dash, sophomore Sara Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West HS) clocked a third-place run of 7.84 seconds.

Schermerhorn finished just behind Melia Williams of Grand Valley State University at 7.79 and Julia Tuuri of Davenport University at 7.83. Sophomore Ava Schmidt (Saline, Michigan / Saline) was eighth at 8.22 seconds.

In the 400 meters, sophomore Catherine Leahy (Elk Rapids, Michigan / Elk Rapids) recorded a fourth-place time of 1:00.27.

Junior Jasmine Zimmerman (Byron Center, Michigan / Home School) took sixth at 1:01.85. Freshman Ashley Zimmerman (Byron Center, Michigan / Home School) came in ninth at 1:02.54. Sophomore Frances Cozzens (Lyman, New Hamshire / Saint Johnsbury) was 10th at 1:02.78.

In the triple jump, sophomore Meredith Kramer (Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan / Grosse Pointe South) placed fourth with a leap of 9.46 meters (31 feet-0 ½ inches).

In the 800 meters, senior Erin Moran (Arlington Heights, Illinois / John Hersey) posted a fifth-place run of 2:19.84. Freshman Payton Ball (Mason, Michigan / Mason) took seventh at 2:30.65. Senior Jessie Schamanek (Rochester, Michigan / Stoney Creek) was 10th at 2:32.45.

In the long jump, sophomore Meredith Kramer (Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan / Grosse Pointe South) finished sixth at 4.56 meters (14-11 ½). Junior Allison Schram (Fenton, Michigan / Hartland) was seventh at 4.35 meters (14-3 ¼).

In the 200 meters, Leahy finished 10th with a run of 27.27 seconds.

In the 60-meter hurdles, freshman Gemma Lerchen (Empire, Michigan / Glen Lake) finished eighth with a time of 10.54 seconds.

Hope's next meet is Saturday, Feb. 24, at the MIAA Indoor Championships hosted by Trine University.
