Women's Indoor Track and Field Wins Two Events, Posts Two Season-Best Performances at Aquinas

Hope competes at the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic

The Hope College indoor women's track and field team recorded two first-place performances and two of the Flying Dutch's season-best efforts on Friday at the Grand Rapids Sports of Fame Classic hosted by Aquinas College.

In the 200 meters, sophomore Sara Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West HS) sprinted to a winning time of 25.64 seconds.

In the shot put, junior Greta Robrahn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) recorded a first-place toss of 12.80 meters (42 feet, 0 inches).

In the high jump, sophomore Natalie Christnagel (Grosse Ile, Michigan / Grosse Ile) posted a season-best, third-place performance by clearing 1.55 meters (5-1).

In the pole vault, senior Bethany Colbrunn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) took seventh with a season-best effort of 3.07 meters (10-0 ¾).

The split-squad Flying Dutch placed fourth out of eight teams with 87 ½ points.

Hope scored in 11 total events.

In the 4x400 relay, the Flying Dutch clocked a runner-up run of 4:14.95 behind Catherine Leahy (Elk Rapids, Michigan / Elk Rapids), senior Erin Moran (Arlington Heights, Illinois / John Hersey), junior Jasmine Zimmerman (Byron Center, Michigan / Home School) and sophomore Ashley Zimmerman (Byron Center, Michigan / Home School).

In the 5,000 meters, freshman Mary England (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Central) recorded a second-place time of 18:51.42. freshman Annika Sytsma (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian) was fourth at 19:37.69.

In the triple jump, sophomore Elliana Johnson (East Lansing, Michigan / Haslett) finished runner-up after leaping 10.01 meters (32-10 ¼). Freshman Kiersten Schmitt (Rockford, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) was fifth at 9.08 meters (29-9 ½).

In the 800 meters, sophomore Emma DeJoy (Pittsford, New York / Our Lady of Mercy) placed third by recording a time of 2:36.12.

In the long jump, Johnson took fourth at 4.73 meters (16-6 ¼). Junior Sophie Duits (Woodland, Michigan / Lakewood) was sixth at 3.79 meters (12-5 ¼).

In the 60 meters, Schermerhorn clocked a fourth-place run of 7.97 seconds.

In the shot put, sophomore Kamryn Bice (Monroe, Michigan / Monroe) finished sixth with a toss of 11.63 meters (38-2).

In the 400 meters, Jasmine Zimmerman took fourth with a run of 1:04.00. Leahy was eighth at 1:04.31.

Aquinas won the meet with 142 1/2 points.

Hope's next meet is Friday, Feb. 9, at 4 p.m. at Aquinas. The meet features teams from the MIAA and Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
