The Hope College women's cross country team has claimed All-Academic team and individual honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the 2023 season.
The Flying Dutch have earned the award all 34 years of the program's existence.
To qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, among other qualifiers.
The MIAA co-champion and Mark Northuis-coached Flying Dutch recorded a 3.76 grade point average.
To qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top 25% of their respective regional championship meet.
Seven represented Hope by earning USTFCCCA All-Academic honors: seniors Libby Gorman (Traverse City, Michigan / St. Francis HS),
Rebecca Markham (Hoffman Estates, Illinois / William Fremd) and
Olivia Quillan (Grandville, Michigan / Calvin Christian); juniors
Jane DeGroot (Northville, Michigan / Northville) and
Maddy Struck (Hainesville, Illinois / Grayslake Central); and sophomores
Molly Durow (Glenview, Illinois / Glenbrook South) and
Madison Stern (Saline, Michigan / Saline).
DeGroot is a chemistry major.
Durow, Gorman and Stern are each majoring in elementary education.
Markham, the MIAA's Most Valuable Runner, is majoring in civil engineering.
Quillan is a nursing major.
Stern is majoring in exercise science.
