Men's Track and Field Wins Three Events at Clark Atlanta Panther Classic

The Hope College men's track and field team posted three first-place performances during its first outdoor meet of the season on Saturday.

The Flying Dutchmen won two track events and one field event en route to a third-place total of 73 points at the Clark Atlanta University Panther Track and Field Classic in Georgia. 

Hope finished behind meet champion Columbus State (Ga.) with 120.5 points and runner-up Morehouse College (Ga.) with 78 points in the 19-team event.

In the hammer throw, sophomore Brendyn Mroz (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grandville HS) tossed a winning heave of 46.31 meters (151 feet, 11 inches). Senior Silas Kubicki (South Bend, Indiana / James W. Riley High School) took seventh at 38.5 meters (126-4).

In the 5,000 meters, sophomore Carston Cole (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) led a group of four point-earners in the event by clocking a first-place time of 15 minutes, 19.15 seconds. 

Cole was followed by sophomore Jonas Fraley-Burgett (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Central) in fourth at 15:48.96, freshman Jack Leyden (Plymouth, Michigan / Salem) in sixth at 16:27.37 and freshman Shane Pitcher (Saline, Michigan / Saline) in seventh at 16:28.48.

In the 4x400 relay, Hope clocked a winning effort of 3:22.0 from junior Alex Daniels (Holland, Michigan / Holland), sophomore Liam Danitz (West Branch, Michigan / Ogemaw Heights), junior Joshua Ennen (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland West) and senior Nathan Woolum (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan).

Hope scored in six more events.

In the 1,500 meters, sophomore Jonathan Harlow (Holland, Michigan / Home School) recorded a runner-up effort at 4:02.65. Junior Tyler King (Villa Park, Illinois / Willowbrook) took third at 4:03.18.

In the javelin, sophomore Wil Pinkerton (Ann Arbor, Michigan / Pioneer) placed second with a toss of 46.23 meters (154-11).

In the 200 meters, Danitz finished fourth with a time of 22.14 seconds.

In the 400 meters, Woolum clocked a seventh-place run of 50.31 seconds.

In the 110 hurdles, senior Jackson Player (San Antonio, Texas / Winston Churchill) posted a seventh-place time of 16.10 seconds.

In the pole vault, freshman Kiel Reister (Hamilton, Michigan / Hamilton) was seventh after clearing 3.66 meters (12-0).

Hope's next meet is on Friday-Saturday, March 15-16, at Emory University.
