The Hope College women's lacrosse team had its two-game winning streak snapped Saturday afternoon as the University of Chicago defeated the Flying Dutch, 25-8, at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

The matchup featured NCAA Division III Tournament-qualifying teams from last season.
The loss dropped Hope to 4-4 on the season, while the Maroons evened their record at 4-4 with the win.

The Flying Dutch turn their attention to defending their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship on Wednesday, April 3, at 4 p.m. against Alma College in the league opener at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

On Saturday, Chicago took control of the game early, running off five unanswered goals in the first quarter, including two when the Maroons had a man-up advantage because of Hope penalties. Chicago led 9-2 after the first quarter and extended its lead to 16-4 at the half.

The Flying Dutch were led by senior attacker
Elena Salazar (Howell, Michigan/Hartland) with four goals, while junior attacker
Juli Kirkpatrick (Granger, Indiana/Mishawaka Penn HS) scored twice and added an assist.
Hope's other goals came from sophomore attacker
Julia Brown (Grand Rapids, Michigan/Forest Hills Central) and sophomore midfielder
Sydney LaPrairie (Rochester, Michigan/Stoney Creek).

Four different players scored three goals apiece for the Maroons, who outshot Hope 44-21 for the contest. Senior goalkeeper
Maddie Yakes (Rockford, Michigan/Rockford) made 11 saves for the Flying Dutch.
