Hope College's Eli Meder finished 13th in the nation in the 800 meters on Friday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Meder, a senior from Williamston, Michigan (Lansing Catholic HS), clocked a time of 1 minute, 53.20 seconds during the preliminary round at Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va.

The finish was Meder's highest individual finish at indoor nationals.

It was his third trip to the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Caleb Correia of John Carroll University (Ohio) clocked the fastest qualifying time of 1:50.74.

The top eight runners qualified for the finals on Saturday, March 9.

Meder earned All-America Second-Team Honors for his performance.

"It was a great showing by all three athletes against some tough competition," said head coach Kevin Cole. "Eli was just edged out for the final qualifying spot in his heat."
