The Hope College men's track and field team sits in third place with 52 points after the opening day of the MIAA Outdoor Championships, presented by Collegiate Credit Union, on Thursday at Hope College. Calvin University leads with 68 points, followed by Trine with 62.

Sophomore Cooper Jacobsen (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern) led the Flying Dutchmen in the 10,000 meters with a runner-up finish and a personal-best time of 31:54.65.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, senior Andrew Tilly (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township) recorded a fifth-place finish in a personal-best 9:50.51. Junior Shane Pitcher (Saline, Michigan / Saline) followed in seventh, while Norris added an eighth-place finish.

Head coach Jordan Bartolazzi was pleased with Noah Norris' performance.

"What he did, he ran the steeplechase final, scored in it for us, and then came back and ran even better in the 10K," Bartolazzi said. "To pull off both of those back-to-back is incredible. Just an awesome effort from Noah."

In the pole vault, freshman Gavin Grover (Glen Ellyn, Illinois / St. Francis) placed fifth, clearing 4.16 meters (13 feet, 7 ¾ inches).

Junior Henry Burnham (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) led Hope in the long jump with a sixth-place, personal-best leap of 6.49 meters (21-3 ½). Freshman Josh Bruxvoort (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) placed eighth.
