Women's Lacrosse Strikes Early, Cruises Past Adrian

Ten was a good number for the Hope College women's lacrosse team on Wednesday.

The Flying Dutch soared to a 15-3 victory at Adrian College after cruising to a 10-0 halftime lead.

The dominating performance marked Hope's 10th consecutive victory in the series dating back to the 2015 season. The last four victories vs. the Bulldogs have been by double digits.

Hope improved to 7-4 overall and atop the MIAA standings with a 3-0 league record. The Flying Dutch hold a half-game lead over Kalamazoo College and Trine University, their next two opponents.

On Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m., Hope plays at Kalamazoo. On Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m. the Flying Dutch play at Trine.

Against Adrian, Hope scored five goals during each of the first two quarters and shut out Adrian (4-5, 0-3 MIAA) for the first 34 minutes and 10 seconds.

The Flying Dutch extended their lead to 11-0 on a goal from sophomore attacker Julia Brown  (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central HS) 1:16 into the third quarter before Adrian's Sarah Gross scored nearly three minutes later.

The three goals marked Hope's best defensive effort since a 21-1 victory at the University of Texas-Dallas on March 25, 2022.


Senior goalie Maddie Yakes (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) made seven saves.

The Flying Dutch caused 17 of Adrian's 23 turnovers and held the Bulldogs to 11 shots.

Senior attacker Elena Salazar (Howell, Michigan / Hartland) topped Hope with six points on three goals and three assists.

Brown chipped in three goals and one assist.

Junior attacker Kerrigan Brown (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt) and senior midfielder Molly Frederickson (Alto, Michigan / Lowell) added two goals apiece for the Flying Dutch.
