Three from Hope College have been named MIAA Athletes of the Week: senior Nathan Woolum in men's track and field, junior Allison Schram in women's track and field, and sophomore Jack Balmforth in men's lacrosse.

Woolum (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan HS) is the MIAA Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and the third time in his career.

The fifth-year senior helped the Flying Dutchmen win the Wheaton College (Ill.) Invitational on Saturday.

Individually, Woolum placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.54 seconds, which is second-fastest in the MIAA and 28th in the nation.  

The business major finished eighth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.95 seconds and anchored the first-place 4x400 relay with a 48-second split. 

The relay's time of 3:18.48 is currently the top in the conference and 33rd in the country.  Woolum also competed in the runner-up 4x100 relay, which is currently leading the MIAA and 11th in Division III with a time of 41.32 seconds.

Schram (Fenton, Michigan / Hartland) is the MIAA Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.

The junior won the high jump at the Wheaton Invitational with an MIAA-leading mark of 1.58 meters (5 feet, 2 ½ inches).

An elementary education major, Schram also took 14th place in the triple jump with a leap of 9.71 meters (31-10 ¼).

Balmforth (Livonia, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) is the MIAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and in his career.

The goalie helped propel the MIAA-leading Flying Dutchmen to a pair of league victories last week: 11-9 vs. Calvin University on April 9 and 14-4 vs. Adrian College on Saturday.

Balmforth totaled 23 saves, including a second-half shutout against the Bulldogs, and finished with a save percentage of .639.
