Women's Golf Tops Calvin in Modified-Scoring Match

The Hope College women's golf team topped Calvin University, 387-428, in a modified-format match on Saturday at Clearbrook Golf Course.

For the opening six holes, golfers used a best-ball format and utilized alternate shots for the next six holes. The final six holes followed a scramble format.

In the top flight, senior Abby Fansler (Muskegon, Michigan / Reeths-Puffer HS) and sophomore Sara Muir (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) teamed up to shoot a 1-under-par 71 and topped Calvin's Chandler Sjoerdsma and Grace Elfring by nine strokes.

Freshman Rachael Jones (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City) and freshman Allyson Zuidema (Northville, Michigan / Northville) shot 74 in the second flight and finished eight strokes ahead of Calvin's Georgie Scholtens and Kayla Adkins.

In the third flight, junior Sarah Owens (Charlotte, Michigan / Charlotte) and sophomore Caydee Constant (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) finished with an 81 and lost by one stroke to Calvin's Andrea Diemer and Gina Sonday.

In the fourth flight, sisters Jaiden Winters and Jordan Winters (New Carlisle, Indiana / New Carlisle) carded a 76 and placed 15 strokes ahead of Calvin's Katherine Lamer and Anna Johnson.

In the fifth flight, sophomore Hannah Finch (Dexter, Michigan / Dexter) and freshman Kylie Gernaat (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian) posted an 85 and finished 10 strokes ahead of Calvin's Preslie Riggs and Ava Endelman.

Hope's next event is the MIAA Spring Finale on Monday-Tuesday, April 22-23, at Gull Lakeview Golf Course in Augusta.
