Women's Track and Field Records Five Season-Best Efforts in Final Prep for MIAA Championships

The Hope College women's track and field team posted five season-best efforts at the Grand Valley State University Extra Weekend Meet on Thursday.

Three of the performances ranked in the Top 6 in their events during the meet that included teams from all three NCAA divisions and the NAIA.
The non-scoring meet was the final event for the Flying Dutchmen before the MIAA Championships on Thursday-Friday, May 3-4, hosted by Calvin University at Grand Rapids Christian High School.

In the 4x100-meter relay, sophomore Ava Schmidt (Saline, Michigan / Saline HS), sophomore Catherine Leahy (Elk Rapids, Michigan / Elk Rapids), junior Jasmine Zimmerman (Byron Center, Michigan / Home School) and sophomore Sara Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) won with a season-best run of 48.53 seconds.

In the pole vault, senior Bethany Colbrunn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) tied for fifth place by clearing a season-high 3.01 meters (9 feet, 10 ¾ inches).

In the 100 hurdles, sophomore Molly Durow (Glenview, Illinois / Glenbrook South) clocked a season-best and sixth-place run of 1 minute, 9.13 seconds.

Sophomore Elliana Johnson (East Lansing, Michigan / Haslett) took ninth after recording a time of 1:10.49. Sophomore Frances Cozzens (Lyman, N.H. / Saint Johnsbury Academy) was 10th at 1:11.97.

In the 1,500 meters, senior Olivia Quillan (Grandville, Michigan / Calvin Christian) posted a season-best and 12th-place run of 4:36.94.

In the 800 meters, freshman Amanda Markham (Hoffman Estates, Illinois / William Fremd) clocked a season-best and 19th-place effort of 2:17.64.

Schermerhorn finished second in the 200 meters with a run of 24.62 seconds and third in the 100 meter with a time of 12.17.

Leahy took fifth in the 400 meters by running a time of 58.74.

In the long jump, freshman Bridget Crombie (Lansing, Michigan / Home School) recorded a fifth-place distance of 4.73 meters (15-6 ¼).

Crombie also tied for seventh in the high jump after clearing 1.47 meters (4-7 ¾).

In the shot put, sophomore Karen Nimtz (Holt, Michigan / Home School) finished ninth with a toss of 10.54 meters (34-7).

In the 100 hurdles, freshman Gemma Lerchen (Empire, Michigan / Glen Lake) took 10th with a tie of 17.80 seconds.
