Rebecca Markham Sets Meet Record in the 5,000 Meters at the St. Francis Fighting Chance Invite

Hope College distance runner Rebecca Markham bolstered one of her qualifying times over the weekend for the upcoming NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The senior from Hoffman Estates, Illinois (William Fremd HS) clocked a meet record in the 5,000 meters at the University of St. Francis (Illinois) Fighting Chance Invite.

Markham's PR time of 16 minutes, 46.29 seconds surpassed the old meet record of 16:46.82 and raised her to 17th in the event in Division III.

The top 22 qualifiers advance to nationals later this month. Qualifying concludes on Thursday, May 16.

In the 400 meters, sophomore Catherine Leahy (Elk Rapids, Michigan / Elk Rapids) finished ninth in her section with a time of 59.22 seconds.

In the 800 meters, freshman Amanda Markham (Hoffman Estates, Illinois / William Fremd) took 13th by clocking a run of 2:17.79. Senior Olivia Quillan (Grandville, Michigan / Calvin Christian) was 18th at 2:18.59.

In the 200 meters, Leahy placed 22nd at 26.29.

Thrower Greta Robrahn competed at Grand Valley State University over the weekend.

The junior from Zeeland, Michigan (Zeeland East) set a PR with a toss of 13.42 meters (44 feet, ½ inch).
