Five Chosen for Academic All-District® Women’s Cross Country/Track and Field Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators

Five Hope College standouts have been chosen for the 2023-24 Academic All-District® Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators: runners Rebecca Markham, Olivia Quillan, Sara Schermerhorn and Maddy Struck, and thrower Greta Robrahn.

The program first recognizes women's track and field/cross country Academic All-District® honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. 

A select number of recipients, including Markham and Schermerhorn, advanced to the Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced later this summer.

Markham (Hoffman Estates, Illinois / William Fremd HS) graduated in May after majoring in civil engineering.

During her senior season, Markham claimed All-America accolades at the Division III Cross Country and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She finished seventh in the 10,000 meters and 16th in the 5,000 meters in track and field, and 17th in cross country.

Markham was the MIAA's Most Valuable Cross Country Runner after placing first at the league meet and headlined the All-MIAA Team.

Markham recorded United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association all-region honors in the indoor 3,000 and 5,000 meters, and the outdoor 5,000 and 10,000 meters. She was the MIAA champion and All-MIAA in the indoor 3,000 and 5,000 meters, and the outdoor 10,000 meters.

Quillan (Grandville, Michigan / Calvin Christian) graduated in May after majoring in nursing.

As a senior, Quillan ran in track and field to all-region distinction in the indoor mile and the outdoor 1,500 meters. She also scored at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships.

Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) raced to multiple school records, USTFCCCA all-region honors and MIAA titles this season.

The sophomore finished seventh in the 400 meters and 11th in the 200 meters at indoor nationals in March. Schermerhorn claimed indoor all-region recognition in the 60 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 4x400 relay and distance medley relay. She was the MIAA's Most Valuable Indoor Track Athlete, and MIAA champion and All-MIAA in the 200 meters, 400 meters, and the 4x400 relay.

During the outdoor season, Schermerhorn placed fifth in the 400 meters and 14th in the 200 meters at nationals. She achieved all-region distinction in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters and 4x400 relay, and was MIAA champion and All-MIAA in the 400 meters, 4x100 relay, and 4x400 relay.

Struck (Hainesville, Illinois / Grayslake Central) is an exercise science major.

The junior claimed USTFCCCA all-region accolades in the outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase and indoor 5,000 meters.

Robrahn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) is a physical and health education major. 

The junior earned USTFCCCA outdoor all-region honors in the shot put, and was MIAA champion and All-MIAA in the event.
