Nationally-Ranked Women's Cross Country Excels at Olivet Invitational

The nationally-ranked Hope College women's cross country team displayed its youth and depth during a dominant performance at the non-scoring The University of Olivet Comet Invitational on Friday.

The No. 26 Flying Dutch clocked 13 of the fastest 20 runs at Broadway Acres Golf Course. Eleven of those runs were by sophomores and freshmen.

Freshman Maddie VandeBunte (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison HS) outkicked Cleary University's McKenna Marsh for top individual runners with a time of 18:02.1.

Women's and men's runners raced simultaneously on a modified course of less than 3.1 miles due to rain that caused the original course to become unsafe.

Hope put six runners in the Top 10 of the 59-runner field.

Sophomore Becca Scott (Naperville, Illinois / Naperville Central) recorded a time of 18:30.5.

Freshman Nidia Martinez (Fennville, Michigan / Fennville) took eighth with a run of 18:334.5.

Junior  Arianna Bruininks (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central) finished in ninth at 18:36.7.

Sophomore Elise Bodary (New Boston, Michigan / Father Gabriel Richard) placed 10th at 18:37.4.

The Flying Dutch's next meet is Friday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m. at the Grand Rapids Community College/Calvin University Invitational at the Gainey Athletic Complex.
